History and discovery

Discovered: 1803 — Martin Heinrich Klaproth. Name origin: Named after the asteroid (now dwarf planet) Ceres, discovered two years earlier.

Discovered in 1803 by Berzelius and Hisinger in Sweden and independently by Klaproth in Germany.
