Discovered: 1875 — Lecoq de Boisbaudran. Name origin: From Gallia, the Latin name for France, homeland of its discoverer.

Paul-Émile Lecoq de Boisbaudran found gallium in 1875 — the first of Mendeleev's predicted elements to be discovered.
